About Equal Edge

What is Equal Edge?

Equal Edge is an app tailored for neurodivergent college students that supports executive functioning. It brings calendars and syllabi together, helps students break larger assignments into manageable steps, and encourages time awareness throughout the semester. The app provides a dependable way to visualize responsibilities, prioritize weekly tasks, and begin making progress, helping students stay organized and focused.

Unlike a traditional planning app, Equal Edge understands the unique challenges neurodivergent students face. It supports flexible planning without expecting students to have everything perfectly organized from the start.

How does Equal Edge work?

Equal Edge uses executive functioning supports such as task chunking, time estimates, visual priority setting, color-coding, and a low-cognitive-load interface. The goal is to help students build executive-function skills—not do the work for them. If something falls through the cracks, Equal Edge helps students look at what matters today and this week, adjust, and keep moving without starting over.

What’s ahead on the roadmap?

Equal Edge has four core areas. Schedule is a unified planner with day, three-day, weekly, and monthly views and Syllabus Hub is where students store and access syllabi; both are live for the pilot. Grow will add self-discovery assessments, reflective tools, and content students can read or listen to at their own pace. An integrated Timer will support focused work and time awareness. Grow and Timer will be live by the end of the fall ‘26 semester

By the end of spring 2027, students are expected to have access to the full Grow library. Plus, staff will gain engagement data tools, dashboards, a custom resource library, and additional staff tools.

Who are your pilot schools?

Fall 2026 pilot schools include Kent State University, Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health, John Carroll University, Marietta College, and Maine College of Art and Design (MECA).

Is there a cost, and are there requirements to participate?

Equal Edge is free to students during the Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 pilot. Participation is opt-in, and sign-up takes under two minutes with a school email address. There are no requirements. Students do not need a formal diagnosis, an active accommodation plan, or any documentation on file.

Students can also choose to join the optional Student Ambassador Program (also free to join) to earn rewards for providing feedback, completing activities, and sharing their experience. Ambassadors join a community of students helping shape what Equal Edge becomes.

What is the timeline for the pilot and what is coming?

The pilot runs Fall 2026 and Spring 2027. The app is live now on iOS and Android, with web coming soon. New features are being added throughout the pilot phase.

By the end of spring 2027, the platform will include the full Grow content libraries, staff-facing data tools and dashboards, and a custom resource library for your office. Our staff dashboard will give your team visibility into how your students are engaging with the platform in a way that no current tool provides.

For specific timeline questions, reach out to us.

Do students need a diagnosis or accommodation on file?

No. Participation is open to any student your office refers. Staff do not need to verify a diagnosis, check a student’s file, or confirm documentation. If your office thinks a student could benefit, your referral is enough. If your office thinks a student could benefit, send them to Equal Edge. The only thing needed is a school email address.

Getting Started

How does a student sign up?

Sign-up takes under two minutes. Students follow these four steps:

  1. Download Equal Edge from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
  2. Open the app and enter their name and email address. (We’ll use the email for password resets.)
  3. Create a password. The password must be at least 8 characters long and include at least one letter and one number.
  4. Accept the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. (Available during registration and on our website)
  5. Review and agree to the Data Sharing Policy. (Available during registration and on our website)

That’s it — they’re in.

What does a student see when they first open the app?

After creating an account, the app displays a welcome screen with a Start button. When the student taps Start, the app adds four pre-built onboarding activities directly to their planner, and each teaches a core planner skill.

Create your first activity walks the student through editing an activity: setting a title, due date, and notes; generating a list of steps to complete the activity with AI; and setting time estimates.

Tap to move this around teaches students to defer tasks when schedules get tight and how to move activities to today, tomorrow, next week, or Anytime (a to-do that doesn’t have an assigned day or time yet).

Import your calendar guides them to Profile, then Import Calendar, where they can upload an ICS file or paste a calendar feed link.

Upload your syllabus guides them to Profile, then My Syllabi, where they can take photos or upload documents directly.

The onboarding screen appears only once per account. After that, the student goes directly to their planner on every open. If a student tells you they missed onboarding or are confused about the basics, send them to equaledgeu.com/support or support@equaledgeu.com, and we will help them.

How does a student import their class schedule?

Students import their schedule using an ICS file, the standard calendar format supported by Canvas, Google Calendar, Google Classroom, Outlook, and most LMS platforms. In the app, students go to Profile, then tap Import Calendar. From there, they can upload a downloaded ICS file or paste a live calendar feed link. Importing the file can take up to 15 seconds. If the student leaves the app during processing, the app picks up where it left off when they return.

If a student asks about their specific platform and you are not sure how to help, send them to equaledgeu.com/support or support@equaledgeu.com, and we'll walk them through it.

How do students upload their syllabi?

Students upload syllabi through My Syllabi. In the app, they go to Profile, then tap My Syllabi. Create or select a course, then tap the + sign to upload a PDF, JPG, PNG, or photo of a printed syllabus.

Syllabi are currently stored as reference documents; automatic deadline extraction is still in development.

How Equal Edge Works

How do activities and tasks work?

An activity is any unit of work in Equal Edge: studying for an exam, writing a paper, completing a problem set, etc. Inside each activity, students build a task list, the individual steps needed to finish the work.

They can write their own steps or use AI to generate an editable list based on the activity title, notes, due date, and existing tasks. Equal Edge also suggests adjustable time estimates, displays total estimated workload, shows progress, and sends reminders.

Activities and tasks have been built to support time awareness, task initiation, prioritization and chunking. Students build a concrete, realistic picture of what a workload actually requires before they start. Plus, progress rings show students how they're progressing towards their goals, building momentum as they work through their day.

What is the Student Ambassador program?

The ambassador program is an optional, earn-as-you-go layer for students who want to go deeper with the platform. It runs on Social Ladder, an external ambassador management platform. Students sign up directly in the Equal Edge app after creating their account.

Ambassadors earn points by sharing feedback, posting about the app on social media, and completing weekly challenges. Points can be redeemed for rewards. Ambassadors also see how they rank on a leaderboard and join a community of students helping shape what Equal Edge becomes.

You do not need to manage this program or track participation. Equal Edge handles all ambassador communications and rewards through Social Ladder. If a student asks about the ambassador program, tell them to sign up in the app, and we will take it from there.

The Student Ambassador platform will be live by the beginning of the Fall 2026 semester.

What if a student wants to opt out or delete their account?

Students can stop using Equal Edge at any time without notifying anyone, including your office. If a student wants their account and data deleted, or if they want to continue using the app but opt-out of sharing with the school, they can do so at any time in the app settings.

Opting out does not appear in the student’s disability services or academic record. Your office may be notified when a student stops using the app, deletes the app, or opts out. Deleting an account also removes Student Ambassador Program activity and points. A student can rejoin later with their school email.

Staff's Role in the Pilot

What is my office's role?

Your office introduces Equal Edge to students using the materials we provide: an outreach email template, a student-facing flyer, the website. Beyond that introduction, Equal Edge handles all student support directly. Students contact us for technical issues, feature questions, privacy questions, and anything else related to the app.

Student participation in Equal Edge is also completely separate from their disability services record and academic file. Signing up for Equal Edge creates no record in your systems.

How can I introduce Equal Edge to students?

"We are piloting a planning app designed for students like you. It helps you organize your schedule, syllabi, and assignments in one place. It helps with task initiation, time awareness, prioritization, focus, and more. It’s free, and has nothing to do with your disability services record, and you can try it whenever you want."

You do not need to walk through the features in detail. Equal Edge provides onboarding support once a student signs up. Just point students to the App Store, Google Play or to equaledgeu.com.

What should I say if a student asks about a feature that is not live yet?

Let the student know the feature is in development and direct them to equaledgeu.com or support@equaledgeu.com for the latest information. Don’t promise a release date unless Equal Edge has confirmed it. If a student is disappointed, acknowledge it plainly and refer them to Equal Edge for updates.

A student has a technical problem or cannot get the app to work. What do I do?

Send the student directly to Equal Edge. They can reach support through Contact Us in the app, equaledgeu.com/support, or support@equaledgeu.com. Equal Edge owns all student-level technical support during the pilot. Your office is not responsible for resolving app issues.

When should I refer a student directly to Equal Edge?

Send students to us for any of the following:

  • Any technical issue, error, or appquestion. We own all student-level support.
  • Questions about what data Equal Edge collects or how it is used.
  • Questions about a feature that does not seem to be working or available yet. We may have a timeline or can confirm what is in development.
  • A student who is stuck after onboarding or struggling to get started. We have support for this.
  • Questions about the Student Ambassador program.
  • Anything about the student's Equal Edge account, profile, or privacy.

Students can reach support through Contact Us in the app, equaledgeu.com/support, or support@equaledgeu.com.

How does Equal Edge handle student support?

Equal Edge owns all student-level support during the pilot. We do not expect your office to troubleshoot app issues, answer feature questions, or handle any technical inquiries. If a student asks you something you cannot answer, students can reach our team through Contact Us in the app, equaledgeu.com/support, or support@equaledgeu.com.

We respond as quickly as we can and keep the student's DS office out of the loop unless there is a specific reason to involve them.

Data & Privacy

What data does Equal Edge collect from students?

Equal Edge collects the information students provide at sign-up (your name and school email address) and the content created in the app (activities, tasks, time estimates, syllabus documents, and notes). We also collect basic device and usage data through Mixpanel to understand how the app is being used and improve it over time.

We do not sell personal information to anyone. We do not share data with any third parties without consent.

When a student uses AI features in the app, the text you enter is processed through OpenAI. Students should not enter sensitive personal information, like Social Security numbers or medical details, into AI fields.

For the full privacy policy, visit equaledgeu.com/privacy-policy. For privacy-specific questions, email privacy@equaledgeu.com.

Can my office see what individual students are doing in the app?

Equal Edge shares data with your office in two ways:

  • Overall program insights. Your school will receive reports showing how students are using Equal Edge as a whole. These reports combine data from all participating students and do not identify individual students or include your personal content.
  • Support indicators. Your disability/accessibility services office will see the number of completed, incomplete, and deferred tasks. These notifications are based on patterns of app activity, not the content of tasks, and are intended to help connect students with support when it may be helpful.

Your office does not receive individual student account content, such as activities, tasks, notes, or planner entries. Student accounts are fully separate from their disability services record. Participation in Equal Edge does not create any entry in your systems and does not appear anywhere in a student's academic file.

If a student asks me about their data, what should I tell them?

Tell them Equal Edge handles all data and privacy questions directly. They can visit equaledgeu.com/privacy-policy for the full privacy policy or email privacy@equaledgeu.com for specific questions.

You can add that your office does not have access to their Equal Edge account or direct information input into the system and that their participation is separate from their disability services record.

For any questions you do not know how to answer, students can reach our team through Contact Us in the app, equaledgeu.com/support, or support@equaledgeu.com.
